Suited & Booted: Groomsmen Outfit Solutions & Occasion Wear Styling Guide for Men

For the grooms, exploring high-street solutions for groomsmen outfits can avoid add-on costs that are often encountered with professional tailoring and groomsmen specialists. The best part is, you can solve all of your tailoring needs with seamstresses and adjustments at a fraction of the cost – meaning a bigger bar tab on your special day!

DO: Opt for a pair of jeans instead of a matching suit trouser if you’re planning on making the outfit more casual. Try a darker suit jacket with a pattern or texture and ensure your jeans are smart. White jeans also work well with lighter blue blazers. We also suggest opting for a funkier style of button-down shirt to make the ensemble more playful. This means you can skip the waistcoat all together.

DON’T: Wear a t-shirt under your blazer. Unless otherwise stated, weddings require a more formal approach to styling, so that should be respected. Try to avoid jeans or trainers unless they’re clean and smart enough to work well with your blazer.

If you’re unsure of the dress code for a wedding, the chances are there isn’t a strict dress code. In any case, we recommend going traditional with a 3-piece suit – but with a twist. Try checks and lighter colours with your suit or add a floral shirt.

DO: Ensure you have the measurements for your groomsmen before you set out shopping the high street. If you find something appropriate, check to see if they have a multi-buy offer (because it can’t hurt to ask!) and then look for someone who can tailor all these suits at a later date. Better still, bring the groomsmen with you and have a pint or two afterwards!

DON’T: Guess your groomsmen’s sizes. Anything that’s too big or small may pose the risk of the shop running out of the correct sizes before the big day. Simple accessories such as ties and pocket squares can be purchased afterwards, so try to focus on the main suit for now.
